Student Absences
Regular attendance at school is very important for the success of your child. Each day is filled with a variety of learning experiences, many of which cannot be made up at home. Children must be at school in order to participate in class discussions, science experiments, group projects, oral test reviews, etc. Of course, there are times when it is best to keep a sick child at home. When this occurs, every effort will be made to send home any written work with a sibling. Getting a start on absent work at home will help your child to keep up with his/her classmates. However, it is not expected that all work be finished when your child returns. Upon returning to school, I will discuss all work and due dates with your child.
Family vacations, while school is in session, are strongly discouraged. If your child does miss school due to a vacation, he/she will receive absent work upon returning. No work will be given ahead of time. This is the policy of Barnard School.

Birthdays
Birthdays are a special day! We enjoy celebrating at school with your child. In an effort to maximize learning time, and eliminate worry about food allergies, please do not send in a treat. Instead, some parents choose to donate a new book to our classroom library, an indoor recess game, playground equipment, or items for our classroom store. No birthday treats will be allowed at Barnard this year.
